The Mini Transat is one of the most fascinating and demanding ocean races in the international sailing world: a solo Atlantic crossing, without assistance and without the use of modern navigation or communication tools such as GPS chartplotters or satellite systems. It’s a true return to the roots of sailing — where seamanship, endurance, and courage are what truly matter.
Among the protagonists of the 2025 edition is Cecilia Zorzi, a talented Italian sailor from Trentino with an impressive career ranging from Olympic dinghies to offshore racing.
After years of success in team and offshore events, Cecilia is now taking on her first Mini Transat — a challenge that combines sport, adventure, and a strong social message through her project “Cecilia in Oceano”, which promotes inclusion and equal opportunities in sports.
The cancellation of the first leg
The 2025 edition got off to a difficult start: the first leg — originally set to depart from Les Sables-d’Olonne on September 21 and finish in La Palma — was cancelled just days before the start due to the arrival of Hurricane Gabrielle.
A tough but necessary decision to ensure the safety of all skippers, many of whom had already set sail. The entire fleet was safely secured, and the competition will now continue directly with the second leg.
The new challenge: from La Palma to Guadeloupe
On October 25, from the marina of Santa Cruz de La Palma, the only official leg of the Mini Transat 2025 will begin: over 3,000 Atlantic miles to Saint François, Guadeloupe, to be completed solo and without any shore support.
A demanding crossing that will push both boats and sailors to their limits — facing strong winds, ocean swells, and long nights of uninterrupted navigation.
