SY Ohana 163 ft Rigging

The Fitzroy 163 ft/50 m “Ohana” was built in 2012 by Fitzroy. Actually it is quite fully equipped by running rigging made from Armare Ropes, thanks to the riggers Luca Perna (LP Rigging) and the collaboration of Soluzioni Tessili. During these days the yacht is sailing in the 2016 St. Barths Bucket Regatta (17-20 March 2016) and Luca Perna is sharing some nice pictures with us. Thanks Luca for your support, and you all enjoy the pictures from this amazing Super Yacht!

About Fitzroy Ohana 163
The 163 ft /50 m Custom ‘OHANA’ was built in 2012 by Fitzroy. This luxury vessel’s sophisticated exterior design and engineering are the work of Dubois. The yacht’s interior has been designed by Fitzroy and her exterior styling is by Dubois.  Ohana’s interior layout sleeps up to 10 guests in 5 staterooms, including a master suite, 2 double cabins and 2 twin cabins.
Run by a Cat C32 1450 BHP engine, the 50m luxury yacht Ohana boasts a maximum beam of 9,96 m and a draught of 5,5 m. Ohana is streamlined and she features a full sail configuration from Doyle Sails NZ, with a 63 m Southern Spars mast and rigging. Decisions on the sail configuration were results driven, and there are high hopes for Ohana’s performance on the regatta scene, with the owner a keen regatta participant. The aim to sail the yacht regularly also had its impact on the yacht’s simple interior, which will allow the yacht to be sailing ready in a short amount of time. Fitzroy have also worked hard on the deck equipment and sail handling of Ohana, with Harken supplying the deckware, and Ohana is the first completed yacht that features Harken’s captive winches. “With these boats the sail handling is highly mechanised and the actual smoothness with which it’s handled during sailing is affected critically by the equipment, so the sail handling is a very important part of these big boats”.

It was a hard work for Armare Ropes to develop all the running rigging with adeguate performance and the highest breaking loads to match the Harken’s captive winches. For these reasons we have choose cores in Dyneema SK78 and SK90 with pre heating treatments, protected with technical cores of various types, such as Technora, Kevlar, Cordura and PBO.
